Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House
Charities® of Northeastern Ohio,
Inc., (RMHC-NEO)
recently awarded grants in the amount of
$134,413.11 to eight (8) area non-profit
organizations whose services are provided to
children.
Providence House, Inc., received grant funds in the amount of $65,481.67 to purchase items, furnishings and equipment to support their children’s emergency shelter program. Providence House, Inc., established in 1981, provides emergency shelter and quality crisis care to children newborn to six years old. The mission of Providence House is to fight to end child abuse and neglect by protecting at-risk children, empowering families in crisis and building safe communities for every child. “We are very pleased to be able to provide funding to Providence House,” says Allen D. Smith, McDonald’s Owner/Operator and RMHC-NEO Chairman Emeritus. “These funds will help Providence House protect their promise made over 30 years ago to care for the most vulnerable in our community - babies and children in crisis.”
Alliance for Children & Families, located in Alliance, was awarded grant funds to install a playground for use by children and families living at the Mastroianni Family Center, the 10-unit permanent supportive housing facility with space for case management, tutoring, laundry facilities and medical services for families. Alliance for Children & Families is committed to helping children, individuals, and families lead lives of stability, self-sufficiency, and enhancement. Alliance for Children and Families operates a shelter for the homeless and provides transitional housing for people in danger of becoming homeless. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald's Owner/Operator Gaetano Cecchini, owner of McDonald’s restaurants in Alliance.
Children’s Developmental Center, located in Amherst, received grant funds to renovate their playground and outdoor therapeutic play space. Children’s Developmental Center has been providing therapy services to special needs children since 1954 and is the only Center in Lorain County dedicated to serving only children. The mission of Children’s Developmental Center is to provide services to special needs children helping them reach their maximum potential and impacting their quality of life.
First Step, Family Violence Intervention
Services, Inc.,
located in Coshocton, was awarded grant funds to
purchase items and equipment to renovate their
children’s therapy and recreational area in Hope
House domestic violence shelter. First Step
was established in 1992
to promote safety to victims of violence through
education, counseling, advocacy and shelter when
needed to any person suffering the effects of
domestic violence and/or sexual assault and to
promote
non-violent behavior by educating the
perpetrators of violence.
This
grant application was endorsed by McDonald's
Owner/Operator Dana Lewis, owner of the
McDonald’s restaurant in Coshocton.
Orrville
Area Boys & Girls Club
received grant funds to purchase items,
equipment and furnishings to renovate the Teen
Center Recreational Area. The Orrville Area
Boys & Girls Club was founded in 1971 and their
mission is to enable all young people to reach
their full potential as productive, caring,
responsible citizens. The Orrville Boys & Girls
Club provides programs to youth to develop
Character & Leadership Development, Education &
Career Development, Health & Life Skills, the
Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.
Pegasus Farm located in Hartville, received a grant to purchase items and equipment to support their children’s therapeutic equestrian program and to sponsor the annual horse show. Pegasus Farm, established in 1986, is a horse-based healing and learning center dedicated to helping children and adults with disabilities achieve more productive and enjoyable lives. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald's Owner/Operator Tom Locke, owner of McDonald’s restaurants located in Hartville, Akron, Canal Fulton & Canton.
The
Nord Center,
located in Lorain, was awarded grant funds to
purchase items and equipment to support their
children’s recreation and therapy program. The
Nord Center was established in 1947 and their
mission is to provide comprehensive, behavioral
healthcare services that are culturally
competent and evidence-based, and that promote
recovery, dignity and well being for clients,
their families and the community. This
grant application was endorsed by McDonald's
Owner/Operators Joe and Sharon Figueroa, owners
of McDonald’s restaurants in the Lorain area.
United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland
received grant funds to purchase therapeutic
items and equipment to support their children’s
therapy program which will utilize functional
electrical stimulation integrated with play
therapy to meet therapy developmental goals.
United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland was
established 62 years ago to empower children and
adults with disabilities to advance their
independence, productivity and inclusion in the
community. This
grant application was endorsed by McDonald's

The Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Northeastern Ohio, Inc., (RMHC-NEO) recently awarded a grant to Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry in Cleveland to fund their After School Prevention Resources (ASPR) program. ASPR is an out-of-school-time program for teens and helps to identify and reduce the factors that place adolescents at high risk for engaging in delinquent behavior. ASPR provides a safe, supportive, culturally diverse environment for teens to develop positive social values, autonomy, social competence and self discipline. Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry, established in 1969, believes in second chances, promotes peace and well-being, serves with our hurting and forgotten neighbors in need, and stands for hope, justice and human dignity.

Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter, located in Alliance, received funds to purchase equipment and items to support recreational activities for children and youth and to renovate the outdoor playground used by children living in the shelter. The mission of the Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter is to empower and assist survivors of verbal, emotional, financial, sexual and physical abuse by providing education, resources, emergency shelter and transitional support services. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald's Owner/Operator Gaetano Cecchini, owner of McDonald’s restaurants in Alliance.
Appleseed Community Mental Health Center, located in Ashland, was awarded grant funds to purchase equipment and items to support children and youth living in the Rape Crisis Domestic Violence SAFE HAVEN shelter. Appleseed Community Mental Health Center provides a wide range of services, including psychiatric, counseling, school programs, anxiety/depression treatment. Rape Crisis Domestic Violence SAFE HAVEN is a program of Appleseed Community Mental Health Center and is the only program in Ashland County providing shelter for survivors of abuse and their children. Their mission is to provide prevention, intervention, support and advocacy, with an emphasis on empowerment, to primary and secondary victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking in Ashland County, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald's restaurants in Ashland.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland received grant funds to purchase mobile cafeteria tables to support the Kids Café healthy lifestyle program at area Club locations. The hot meal program, “Kids Café”, is a partnership program with the Cleveland Foodbank and was launched in September 2006. The program has expanded into each of the five traditional Clubs and provides approximately 100,000 meals annually in the form of a warm dinner during the school year and a warm lunch during the summer. The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland is to inspire and enable young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Berea Children’s Home & Family Services received funds to purchase equipment and items to support the Dual Diagnosis Program at the Residential Treatment Center in Berea. Berea Children’s Home & Family Services is a diverse organization highly regarded for the ability to be responsive to the ever-changing needs of the community. The Dual Diagnosis Program will serve children who have mental illness, behavior problems and a drug addiction. Founded in 1864, the mission of Berea Children’s Home & Family Services is to equip and empower children and families to reach their potential and become contributing members of a strong community. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald's Owner/Operator Barb Malafarina, owner of McDonald’s restaurants in Berea and Middleburgh Heights.
Near West Theatre, located on the near west side of Cleveland, was awarded grant funds to purchase equipment and items to support the Music Theater Programs for Children. Near West Theatre, through the theatre arts, delivers an inclusive, self-esteem building process and high-quality theatre productions and programming that help build Cleveland's near west side and surrounding neighborhoods; educates and raises awareness around issues of social justice, discrimination, and stigma; and provides people of all ages with the ability to nurture their sense of identity and strengthen their purpose as individuals and as a community. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald's Owner/Operators Angelo and Susie Stames, owners of the McDonald’s restaurant located on Dennison Avenue in Cleveland.
Positive Education Program, with program sites in the Cleveland area, received grant funds to purchase items and equipment for the PEP Prentiss Autism Center. One of nine area day treatment sites, PEP Prentiss Autism Center serves school-aged children and youth who demonstrate severe and challenging behavior. Positive Education Program helps troubled and troubling children and youth successfully learn and grow through Re-ED approach, blending quality education and mental health services in partnership with families, schools and communities. University Circle, Inc., located in Cleveland, was awarded grant funds to purchase safety equipment for their Early Learning Initiative (ELI) program, a preschool program dedicated to building essential literacy skills and expanding vocabulary for our community’s underserved earliest learners. UCI is the non-profit development, service, and advocacy organization responsible for the growth of University Circle as a premier urban district and world-class center of innovation in health care, education, and arts & culture. Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit & Medina
Counties was awarded grant funds to
support their children’s programs at the Medina
Shelter. The mission of the Battered Women’s
Shelter is to lead the community in the
prevention of domestic abuse by providing
emergency shelter, advocacy and education
throughout Summit and Medina County, all in an
effort to break the cycle of abuse and help
promote peace in every family. This grant

Christian Children’s Home of Ohio, Inc., located in Wooster, received funds to purchase items to support their New Beginnings Counseling Program for youth in 11 locations in seven counties in Northeast Ohio. Locations are Wooster (2), North Canton, Canton, Massillon, Sugar Creek, Ashland, Belleville, Ontario, Orrville and Tallmadge. The mission of Christian Children's Home of Ohio (CCHO) is to bring healing to hurting children and families. CCHO serves abused and neglected children and their families.
Domestic Violence Center in Cleveland was awarded a grant to support The Tina Project, a comprehensive curriculum and community approach to address teen dating violence. The Tina Project is named in honor of Tina Croucher, who in 1992 at age 18, was murdered by her boyfriend. This teen dating violence prevention and education program is required by state law to be provided to all students in grades 7 through 12. The Tina Project is a collaboration of 16 organizations located in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull Counties. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald’s Owner/Operators Angelo and Susie Stames whose McDonald’s restaurant is located in Cleveland.

Harmony House Homeless Services located in Mansfield will receive grant funds to renovate a playground used by children living in the shelter. Harmony House Homeless Shelter opened in 1990 and provides emergency housing, food and supportive services to individuals and families who are homeless while they work to reclaim maximum independence. This grant was endorsed by McDonald’s Owner/Operators Jeff Monica, Larry Monica & Shirley and Stewart Monica, owners of several McDonald’s restaurants in the Mansfield & Richland county area.
J. R. Coleman Child Care & Family Center in Canton was awarded funds to purchase items and equipment to support the Preschool and Early Learning Center. The mission of J. R. Coleman Family Services is to facilitate and support the efforts of individuals and families in achieving and maintaining independence, security and personal well-being.
New Directions, Inc., located in Pepper Pike, was awarded grant funds to purchase recreational equipment for their residential youth programs. New Directions provides quality, life-changing treatment to chemically dependent adolescents and their families dealing with emotional, behavioral or psychiatric needs. Personal & Family Counseling Services of Tuscarawas Valley, located in New Philadelphia, will receive grant funds to purchase items and furnishings for their domestic violence shelter program, Harbor House. Personal & Family Counseling Services of Tuscarawas Valley, Inc. is committed to developing and providing a continuum of quality services to strengthen adults, children, families and communities. Ronald McDonald House of Akron was awarded funds to support their 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala.
Rose-Mary Center, located in Euclid, was awarded grant funds to purchase therapeutic items and equipment and provide services for children living in their residential treatment center. Rose-Mary Center provides residential treatment to children with disabilities and operates several group homes for adults with developmental disabilities. This grant application was endorsed by McDonald’s Owner/Operator Salvatore Baglieri, owner of McDonald’s restaurants in Hudson, Stow and Munroe Falls.
Shelter Care, Inc., in Akron was awarded a grant to purchase equipment and furnishings for their emergency shelter for troubled youth, Safe Landing Youth Shelters. Shelter Care provides a continuum of residential care, from short-term crisis intervention, to intermediate or respite care, as well as long term care in route to independent living.
Tuscarawas County Senior Center located in Dover, will receive grant funds to purchase children’s car seats, booster seats and other safety equipment to support the TuscTransit Program. TuscTransit is a public transportation program of coordinated efforts between Tuscarawas County Senior Center, the Society of Equal Access and Horizons of Tuscarawas & Carroll Counties to provide transportation services to all residents of Tuscarawas County. Womankind, Inc., located in Garfield Heights, was awarded a grant to support their children’s services and prenatal services for expectant mother’s. YWCA Greater Cleveland received grant funds to renovate the playground and purchase items to support children’s programs at the Early Learning Center. Established in 1868, YWCA Greater Cleveland is one of the oldest continuing nonprofit organizations in Cleveland. YWCA Greater Cleveland facilitates programs that pursue its mission to eliminate racism and empower women, serving children, women and families in five core areas: child care, services for young women transitioning out of foster care, services for at-risk youth, racial justice and women’s leadership.

SC4K is the only non-profit organization in Greater Cleveland providing new shoes and clothes to thousands of children in need at no charge throughout the year. Through a network of 35 distribution partners, SC4K positively impacts the lives of area children by giving them the self-esteem and confidence that comes from having brand new shoes and clothes. Speech, Hearing & Rehabilitation Center located in Ashtabula, was awarded grant funds to purchase equipment and items to support their Early Education Program and Playground Improvement Project. Common Ground: The Cindy Nord Center for Renewal in Oberlin, OH, received grant funds to purchase items and equipment to support the Pathfinders experiential youth learning program. Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County provides a safe haven, adult role models, and a variety of programs that support the educational, emotional, physical, and social development of youth, without regard to social, racial, ethnic, or religious background. Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center was awarded grant funds to purchase equipment and items for their children’s Speech-Language Program. The mission of the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center is to serve, advocate for, and empower individuals with diverse communication abilities and to increase public awareness and sensitivity about hearing loss, deafness, speech-language and related literacy issues. HM Life Opportunity Services located in Akron, OH, was awarded funds to purchase equipment and items for their Early Childhood Enrichment Center. HM Life Opportunity Services shares in the life giving mission of the Sister of the Humility of Mary by offering a unique housing program to persons who lack all or some of the basic necessities of life. The program, with its supportive services, assists individuals to become independent. Neighborhood House Association, Lorain, OH, received grant funds to purchase items and equipment their School Aged Children Program and for Playground Equipment. Achievement Centers for Children
was awarded funds to purchase items and equipment to support the Therapeutic
Horseback Riding Program at
Camp Cheerful. The mission of Achievement Centers for Children is to
work with children with disabilities and their families to create
opportunities for lifelong achievement in society. This grant application was
endorsed by McDonald’s Owner/Operator Wilson Rogers who owns several
McDonald’s restaurants in the Greater Cleveland area.
Cleveland Rape Crisis Center received grant funds to purchase equipment, items and furnishings for the
Children’s Waiting Area in their new facility located in the Leader Building
in downtown Cleveland. The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center is dedicated to
serving survivors of sexual violence and those who support them with free
comprehensive healing and advocacy services, and to creating social change in
the community through education, training and activism. This grant
application was endorsed by McDonald’s Owner/Operator Turan Strange who owns
several McDonald’s restaurants in the Greater Cleveland area.

Townhall II in Kent was awarded grant funds to purchase equipment, items and furnishings for the Children’s Recreational Area at Horizon House Transitional Housing located in Ravenna. Townhall II promotes the health, wellness and recovery of individuals and communities through prevention, education, advocacy, intervention and treatment. UNCF/The College Fund was awarded funds to support their annual golf outing.
YMCA of Akron was awarded grant funds to purchase equipment and items for their Equestrian Program at Camp Y-Noah. The YMCA helps teach character by emphasizing the four key values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty. The YMCA vision is to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. The Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Northeastern Ohio, Inc., recently awarded grants to seven (7) area non-profit organizations whose services are provided to children.
Cleveland Baseball Federation was awarded grant funds to purchase equipment for the summer baseball and softball programs. Cleveland Baseball Federation helps the youth of Cleveland through baseball/softball to develop self esteem, social values and life skills, and find their path to productive citizenship.
